2 Pack RV Magnesium Anode Rod Set

This set contains two identical magnesium anode rods, each 4.5 inches (115 mm) long and 0.5 inch (13 mm) in diameter, with standard 1/2-inch NPT male threads. Made from magnesium alloy fused to a steel central core, offering balanced reactivity and mechanical strength. Intended exclusively for use with Atwood-branded RV water heaters, including model 11553 and compatible 26–27 gallon units. The rods function by acting as a preferential site for electrochemical corrosion: dissolved minerals and oxygen in stored water accelerate oxidation at the magnesium surface instead of the tank’s steel walls. This extends functional life by delaying rust onset, wall thinning, and eventual leakage. Installation is straightforward — unscrew the old rod to drain the tank, inspect its condition, and install the new one using included PTFE tape for a watertight seal. Recommended replacement interval ranges from 12 to 24 months depending on local water quality and frequency of heater use.
