Beginner Friendly Wooden Spindle

Measures 32.5 cm in full length; shaft is 1.2 cm thick; whorl measures 7 cm across and 2 cm deep. Entirely hand-carved from a single piece of seasoned hardwood — smooth to touch, dense enough for stable rotation, yet light enough for sustained use. The whorl incorporates a practical notch on its outer edge, designed specifically to catch and hold the yarn end during twist build-up. This top-whorl configuration prioritises ease of learning: rotational centre sits close to the spinner’s hand, improving proprioceptive feedback and reducing correction lag. Its weight distribution supports controlled acceleration and gentle deceleration — key for mastering the ‘drop-and-pull’ rhythm without yarn snapping or excessive plying. Ideal for creating yarn destined for hand-knitted socks, woven wall hangings, wet-felted brooches, crocheted plant hangers, or playful pom-poms. Its simplicity means it travels well in train bags, fits neatly beside sketchbooks or stitch markers, and introduces fibre arts without technical barriers.
