Compact Wool Ball Winder Clip Base

Measuring only 18 cm in length and weighing 380 g, this wool winder prioritises compactness without sacrificing stability. Its reinforced clip base opens up to 4 cm and locks tightly using dual-spring pressure — tested on laminated chipboard, solid oak edges and upholstered chair arms. The winding arms are made from reinforced ABS with stainless steel axle pins, ensuring smooth rotation and resistance to wear from repeated use. Compatible with yarns ranging from lace-weight (2-ply) to super-bulky (6-ply), it accommodates both natural fibres like wool and alpaca, and synthetics like nylon-blend sock yarn. Operation is intuitive: place the skein over the arms, thread the end through the guide notch, attach the clip, then turn the crank clockwise at a comfortable pace. A full 100 g skein typically forms a dense but pliable ball in 45–75 seconds. The absence of gears or electronics means maintenance is limited to occasional dust removal with a dry cloth. Frequently used by UK-based yarn dyers preparing customer orders, teaching workshops in community centres, and home-based craft businesses fulfilling Etsy or Not On The High Street listings — where speed, repeatability and quiet function matter most.
