Durable Mechanical Map Measuring Tool

Fully mechanical map distance measurer with hardened steel wheel (78 mm Ø), brass pinion gears, and impact-modified polypropylene housing; net weight: 116 g; compact form factor (81 × 79 × 27 mm); rain-resistant sealed assembly; counter reads 0–999 m in 10 m steps with high-contrast black-on-white digits; compatible with all major European paper map publishers (Ordnance Survey, IGN, Kompass, Carto, Freytag & Berndt); includes tactile rubber grip strip for controlled rolling on inclined or damp map surfaces. Designed for daily field use: the wheel rotates freely yet stays anchored during slow tracing; gear train tolerances prevent backlash or digit jump; housing geometry allows stable one-handed operation while holding map corners. Tested across 18 months of continuous use by UK Long Distance Walkers Association members covering >5,000 km of trail validation work. Serves walkers, orienteering coaches, and outdoor education providers who prioritise tool longevity, unambiguous output, and seamless integration into existing map-reading workflows — not gimmicks or redundant digital layers.
