Experimental Wooden RC Glider

An open-ended STEM model kit made from FSC-certified birch plywood, featuring modular components for constructing a functional remote-controlled glider. Includes motor, propeller, battery holder (2 x AA, not supplied), and 2.4 GHz transmitter/receiver set. Dimensions post-assembly: 38 cm length, 25 cm wingspan, 12 cm height; approximate weight 180 g. All edges are finely sanded; no sharp corners or loose hardware. Flight sequence begins with motor-driven acceleration, then transitions seamlessly into unpowered gliding — illustrating conservation of energy and aerodynamic efficiency. Instructions are illustrated and bilingual (English & simplified Chinese), supporting multilingual families and EAL learners in UK schools. Designed around ‘learning by making’: each stage invites questions — Why does it turn left? What happens if we shift the battery? How does wind affect glide distance? — nurturing inquiry-led habits that extend beyond the kit itself.
