1. AD831 is a low-distortion, wide-dynamic-range, single-chip mixer suitable for RF-to-IF downconversion in HF and VHF receivers, second mixing in DMR base stations, DC-baseband conversion, quadrature modulation and demodulation, and Doppler frequency shift detection in ultrasound imaging and other applications. 2. AD831 provides a +24 dBm third-order intercept point and operates with a -10 dBm LO input power level. It does not require high-power LO drivers, eliminating associated shielding and isolation challenges. Compared to passive mixers, it improves system performance and reduces overall system cost. 3. The mixer is designed for single-supply operation. RF, IF, and LO ports include DC-blocking capacitors for ease of use. RF and LO input frequencies support up to 500 MHz. The IF output is a single-ended voltage output with a 250 MHz bandwidth. 4. Gain is set by a single resistor connected between the OUT and FB pins. The output amplifier features low DC offset, enabling DC-coupled applications such as DC-baseband frequency conversion and quadrature amplitude demodulation. 5. With the integrated output amplifier and optimal source impedance, the mixer achieves a 10.3 dB single-sideband (SSB) noise figure at 70 MHz. Unlike passive mixers, AD831 has no insertion loss, requires no external duplexer, and needs no passive termination.
