This product is compatible with all fuel-injected (EFI) Kawasaki motorcycles equipped with an on-board diagnostic system connector. This connector is referred to as KDS (Kawasaki Diagnostic System) in Kawasaki manuals. Unlike other gear indicators, this product connects directly to the diagnostic connector, making installation simple. The unit reads data directly from the ECU, providing faster and more reliable readings than competing products. The display is auto-learning with no buttons or programming wires required. Please note: Your motorcycle is not equipped with a gear position sensor. Therefore, determining the current gear is only possible when the engine is running and the clutch is released. Installation: 1. Locate the 4-pole diagnostic connector (also known as KDS) under the seat, near the ECU module (Black, Grey, or semi-transparent plug). 2. It is typically covered by a removable semi-transparent cap or dummy plug (without wires). The connector may be partially covered by black tape. Note: Some models may have two diagnostic connectors. If so, test both—only one will provide data to the gear indicator. Connecting to the wrong plug will not harm your motorcycle. 3. Remove the cap and connect the gear indicator plug. 4. Route the cable along the frame to the desired mounting location. Peel off the green protective film from the back of the unit and mount the display. 5. Secure the cable with the included cable ties, ensuring it does not interfere with steering movement. Troubleshooting: If the unit does not function, check both diagnostic connectors if present. Disconnect the gear indicator and inspect the pins for damage, bending, or misalignment. Reconnect the plug fully, ensuring proper contact. If setup fails, ensure the battery is fully charged. Weak batteries may prevent proper operation. If some gears are not indicated correctly while the engine is running and the clutch is released, reset the unit and repeat setup. Persistent issues may indicate a slipping clutch. Reset is rarely needed. If required, refer to the product manual for instructions.
